Courtney Litts and Allison Panek ~ Captain 2017 Gaelettes

Congratulations to Courtney and "Sal" for being chosen by their team mates and coaches to lead the SHSGS program next season.  It now falls on them and the remaining 2017 seniors to take up the great work done by our 2016 Captains and seniors and push the program even further along our standards of excellence.

This season, we discovered the value and importance of "grit" to our program and watched our seniors lead us from being a great team to being a true family.  Those sessions in the locker room before games and bus rides were magic.  What a great group of role models our new Captains and seniors have had to learn from this year!  And it's clear that Court and Sal have been good students and learned from them. They've already shown those flashes of individual leadership they will need next year.  The coaches are equally excited by the positive mindset we have seen from the rest of the juniors and know that they will be right there with Court and Sal to lead our program next year to greater accomplishments.

Courtney and Allison will be beginning those leadership sessions in the spring and we will help them become the vocal leaders they will need to be.  Of course, all of next year's seniors are invited to participate in these sessions as well.  We look forward to our banquet so that we can thank the great leadership we received from our captains this year and properly pass the torch of responsibility to Courtney and Allison.

Welcome to the 2016
Shelton High Girls'
Soccer Season

2016 - MISSION DEFINED

Welcome to the Home Page of the 2016 Shelton High School Girls Soccer Program.  This is the place to learn all things about SHSGS!

We are coming off a tremendous season last year.  We built an overall varsity record of 14 wins, 3 losses and 3 ties and captured our second Southern Connecticut Conference Championship!  We are not resting on any laurels here and have defined our 2016 season in terms of a mission for our program to accomplish.  We begin this year in a re-constructed SCC.  A new division, a new scheduling format and some new programs to play for sure.  Gone is the old Housatonic Division.  With our old foes from Sheehan High, we know join with Sacred Heart Academy and Wilbur Cross High in a new, and yet unnamed division in the SCC.

But the same old focus remains here at SHSGS; a focus on Pride, Excellence and Commitment.  And as usual, we set the standards high as seen in our 2016 Mission:

Reaching the Class LL Final Four

Successfully Defending Our Class LL Championship

Capturing the First Division Title in the New SCC

Going Undefeated at Finn

Going Undefeated at the JV and Freshman Level

A very challenging mission this year, but one the players and coaches believe is within our ability to achieve and one we have all made a solemn vow to do our very best to accomplish.

The players themselves have stated how this will be accomplished through the Pillars of Success they have defined for themselves:

  • Showing PRIDE in our successful program through our actions and remembering and respecting all those players who came before us

  • Caring enough to be a FAMILY and forming a bond between us through undeniable trust and love, regardless of circumstances

  • Showing a level of MOTIVATION that pushes ourselves and each other to to whatever it takes, within the rules, to achieve this mission

  • Ensuring our EFFORT reflects 110% of ourselves as players through our focus on the tasks at hand

  • Driving our level of HARD WORK to push us well beyond our comfort zone and creating the mental toughness to never give up

  • Maintaining a level of POSITIVITY that keeps it fun, sees the bright side of everything related to the game and rubs off on others

The coaching staff is confident that keeping true to these Pillars, particularly in those individual and team moments where the challenge is greatest, will ensure we accomplish our Mission in 2016.  And with the support we get from the school, the SYSO community, our parents and our fans, we are destined to succeed!
